Go Kate, Go! Bringing the LaCanada Community Together!

2/11/2014

Students were challenged to get 1,000 people in our community to show their support local luge Olympian, Kate Hansen, by visiting the GATE website:http://gokatego.weebly.com Students had less than one week before her competition to brainstorm and execute their ideas. By the end of the competition, the website had over 2,300 unique visitors to the site and over 200 personal notes written to Kate. The kids were so excited to hear how successful their "advertising campaign" had been!
Other Highlights:
  • Brendon Ehrhart and Nadia Chung, fourth graders at LCE,  had their letter requesting support for Kate Hansen published in The Outlook, after the paper deadline!
  • Three sixth graders at PCY, Brandon Lee, Leonne Asatoorian, and Jacob Piasky, wrote a letter in 15 minutes which was distributed to all PCY families in the Thursday folders.
  • Maggie MacKenzie and two friends at PCR created a 2 minute newscast video "Live from Sochi" informing viewers of Kate's road to the Olympics and how to write a note on the gogkatego site.

The students are discussing keeping the site open to add pages to Congratulate Kate,  How to Donate to USA Luge, See Kate Dance, and more! They are hoping to continue following Kate as she prepares for the 2017 Olympics! Go Kate Go!
